Nissan Versa: Monitor, climate, audio, phone and voice recognition systems - Hill start assist system

WARNING

• Never rely solely on the hill start assist system to prevent your Nissan Versa from moving backward when stopped on an inclined hill. Always drive carefully, remain fully attentive, and keep your foot ready.

  Always depress and hold the brake pedal firmly when the vehicle is stopped on a steep slope. Be especially careful when stopped on an uphill incline covered in ice, packed snow, or slippery mud. Failing to prevent your Nissan Versa from rolling backwards can result in a dangerous loss of vehicle control and lead to possible serious injury or death.

• The hill start assist system is designed only as a momentary aid and is not intended to hold the vehicle indefinitely at a standstill on a hill. Always depress the brake pedal when your Nissan Versa is stopped on a steep hill for more than a brief moment. Failure to do so may cause the vehicle to roll backwards unexpectedly and result in a collision or serious personal injury.
• The hill start assist system may not always prevent your Nissan Versa from rolling backwards under extreme vehicle load capacities or severe road grade conditions. Always remain prepared to depress the brake pedal yourself to completely prevent the vehicle from rolling backwards.

  Neglecting to do so may result in an avoidable traffic collision or serious personal injury.

When your Nissan Versa is safely stopped on an inclined hill, the intelligent hill start assist system automatically maintains brake pressure for a short duration to help prevent the vehicle from rolling backward during the critical transition time it takes for the driver to lift their foot off the brake pedal and press down on the accelerator.

The hill start assist system will operate automatically only when all of the following operating conditions are met:

• The transmission is properly shifted into either a forward driving gear or reverse gear.
• The vehicle is brought to a complete and total stop on a hill by applying the foot brake. The maximum holding time provided by the system is approximately 2 seconds. After these 2 seconds elapse, the vehicle will naturally begin to roll back as the hill start assist system ceases operation completely.

Please note that the hill start assist system will not operate when the transmission shift lever is placed in the N (Neutral) or P (Park) position, or when stopping on a flat, level roadway.
