WARNING

Make sure the mechanical parking brake is fully and completely released before driving off. Failing to disengage the brake fully can cause premature brake pad wear, overheating, and lead to an accident.
Never attempt to release or adjust the parking brake from outside the vehicle cabin.
Do not rely on the transmission gear shift lever to take the place of the parking brake. When parking your Nissan Versa, always ensure the handbrake lever is fully engaged.
To help avoid the high risk of injury or death through the unintended operation of your Nissan Versa or its onboard systems, never leave children, vulnerable individuals who require assistance, or pets unattended inside the vehicle. Additionally, remember that the interior temperature of a closed vehicle parked on a warm day can escalate rapidly, posing a fatal threat to people and pets within minutes.

To engage: Pull the mechanical parking brake lever straight up firmly into position A .

To release:

1. Firmly depress and hold the foot brake pedal.

2. Manual transmission models:

Move the transmission shift lever into the N (Neutral) position.

Continuously Variable Transmission models:

Move the transmission shift lever securely into the P (Park) position.

3. While pulling up slightly on the parking brake lever to relieve tension, press the release button B and push the lever all the way down to the floor.

4. Before putting your Nissan Versa in motion, verify that the red brake warning light on the instrument cluster completely goes out.
