Nissan Versa: Do-it-yourself - Engine cooling system
The engine cooling system of your Nissan Versa is filled directly at the factory with a precise, pre-diluted mixture composed of 50% Genuine NISSAN Long Life Antifreeze/Coolant (blue) and 50% clean water to provide reliable, year-round antifreeze and thermal cooling protection.
This specialized antifreeze solution contains active rust and corrosion inhibitors designed to protect internal metal components. Additional engine cooling system chemical additives are entirely unnecessary.
WARNING
- Never attempt to remove the coolant reservoir cap when the engine is hot. Always wait patiently until the engine and radiator have cooled down completely.
Severe thermal burns and scalds could be caused by high-pressure hot fluid or steam escaping rapidly from the cooling system.
- The coolant reservoir tank is equipped with a specialized pressure-type reservoir cap. To prevent engine overheating or damage, always use only an authentic Genuine NISSAN coolant reservoir cap as a direct replacement.
CAUTION
- Never use any aftermarket cooling system additives such as commercial radiator stop-leak sealers. Chemical additives can clog the narrow passages of the cooling system and cause expensive damage to the engine, transmission, or cooling components.
- When adding or replacing coolant fluid, be sure to use exclusively Genuine NISSAN Long Life Antifreeze/Coolant (blue) or an exact certified equivalent. Genuine NISSAN Long Life Antifreeze/Coolant (blue) comes pre-diluted to provide dependable freeze protection down to -34º F (-37º C). If additional freeze protection is required due to harsh winter weather conditions where you operate your vehicle, add Genuine NISSAN Long Life Antifreeze/Coolant (blue) concentrate carefully following the mixing directions printed on the container. If an equivalent coolant other than Genuine NISSAN Long Life Antifreeze/Coolant (blue) is used, follow the manufacturer's instructions precisely to maintain a minimum antifreeze protection level down to -34º F (-37º C).
The use of alternative coolant solutions other than Genuine NISSAN Long Life Antifreeze/Coolant (blue) or a verified equivalent may cause severe damage to your Nissan Versa engine cooling system.
- The standard operational life expectancy of the original factory-fill coolant is 105,000 miles (168,000 km) or 7 years, whichever comes first. Mixing any other type or color of coolant—including older Genuine NISSAN Long Life Antifreeze/Coolant (Green)—or utilizing ordinary non-distilled water will significantly reduce the life expectancy and protective qualities of the factory-fill coolant.

Checking engine coolant level

Check the coolant fluid level in the transparent reservoir tank only when the engine is completely cold. If you observe that the coolant level is at or below the MIN level mark B , add fresh coolant mixture until the level reaches the upper MAX level mark A .
