WARNING

Do not stop or park your Nissan Versa over flammable materials such as dry grass, piles of waste paper, or oily rags. These materials may easily ignite upon contact with hot exhaust components and cause a destructive vehicle fire.
Safe parking procedures require that both the parking brake be firmly set and the transmission placed into the P (Park) position for automatic models, or engaged in an appropriate gear for manual transmission (M/T) models. Failure to complete these steps properly could cause your Nissan Versa to move unexpectedly or roll away, resulting in a serious accident. Make certain the shift lever has been pushed as far forward as it can possibly go and cannot be moved freely without depressing the foot brake pedal first.
Never leave the engine running while your vehicle is parked and unattended.
Do not leave children unattended inside the cabin of your Nissan Versa. They could unknowingly activate switches, disengage controls, or cause the vehicle to shift and move. Unattended children left inside a vehicle can easily become involved in severe or fatal accidents.
To help avoid the catastrophic risk of personal injury or death through the unintended operation of your Nissan Versa and its onboard systems, never leave children, vulnerable individuals who require the assistance of others, or domestic pets unattended in your vehicle under any circumstances. Additionally, keep in mind that the temperature inside a closed vehicle parked on a warm day can skyrocket rapidly, creating an extreme and life-threatening risk of heatstroke and death to people and pets left inside.

1. Firmly and securely apply the parking brake.

2. M/T models:

Place the manual transmission shift lever into the R (Reverse) position. When parking your Nissan Versa facing uphill on an inclined grade, place the shift lever firmly into 1st gear.

Continuously Variable Transmission models:

Move the automatic transmission shift lever directly into the P (Park) position.

3. To help prevent your vehicle from rolling into active traffic when parked on an incline or slope, it is a recommended safety practice to turn your front wheels precisely as illustrated in the reference guide.

HEADED DOWNHILL WITH CURB 1 : Turn your front wheels sharply into the curb and allow the Nissan Versa to roll forward slowly until the curbside tire gently touches the face of the curb.
HEADED UPHILL WITH CURB 2 : Turn your front wheels away from the curb and allow the vehicle to roll back slowly until the curbside tire makes gentle contact with the curb.
HEADED UPHILL OR DOWNHILL, NO CURB 3 : Turn your front wheels completely toward the outer shoulder or side of the road so that if the vehicle were to move, it would roll safely away from the center of active traffic.

4. Place the ignition switch into the LOCK position and remove the key completely from the cylinder.
