Nissan Versa: Instruments and controls - Rear window and outside mirror defroster switch

Type A (if so equipped)

To clear condensation, fog, or frost from the rear window glass of your Nissan Versa, first start the engine and then firmly press the rear window defroster switch. The integrated indicator light on the switch face will illuminate to confirm that the heating grid is actively warming the glass. If the window clears before the cycle finishes, you can simply press the switch again to manually turn the system off.

To defrost the heated outside mirrors on your Nissan Versa (if your vehicle is so equipped), ensure the engine is running and press the defroster switch. This action activates the heating elements built into both side mirrors, and the indicator light on the switch will glow to show the system is active. Pressing the switch a second time will immediately turn the mirror defrosters off.

To protect the electrical system and preserve efficiency, the rear window and outside mirror defroster system is programmed with an automatic shut-off feature. The heating cycle will automatically deactivate after approximately 15 minutes of continuous operation.

NOTE:

Always make sure the engine is running when you operate the rear window defroster and heated outside mirror systems on your Nissan Versa. Utilizing these high-draw electrical heating elements while the engine is off or when the ignition is in the accessory mode can rapidly drain the 12V battery and may prevent the vehicle from starting.

CAUTION

When washing or cleaning the interior side of the rear window glass, exercise extreme caution. Avoid using abrasive sponges, sharp metal scrapers, or harsh chemical cleansers, as these can easily scratch, break, or permanently damage the delicate horizontal copper heating grids laminated onto the rear glass of your Nissan Versa.
