Nissan Versa: Instruments and controls - Wiper and washer switch
Switch operation

WARNING
Using the windshield washer in freezing temperatures can be hazardous, as the washer fluid may freeze instantly upon hitting cold glass, obscuring your vision and potentially leading to a collision. Always warm up the windshield of your Nissan Versa using the defroster before cleaning the glass in cold weather.
CAUTION
- To prevent damage to the washer pump motor, do not run the washer continuously for more than 30 seconds.
- Never attempt to operate the washer system if the windshield-washer fluid reservoir is completely dry.
- Do not pour highly concentrated washer fluids into the reservoir at full strength. Certain methyl alcohol-based concentrates can permanently stain the paint or the grille trim of your Nissan Versa if spilled during a refill.
- Always pre-mix fluid concentrates with clean water to the ratio recommended by the manufacturer before pouring it into the filler neck.
Do not try to mix raw fluid concentrate and water directly inside the vehicle's washer fluid reservoir, as this can lead to improper mixing and clog the pump.
NOTE:
If heavy snow or ice buildup blocks the wipers, an automatic safety feature may cut power to protect the wiper motor from burning out. If this happens, move the wiper switch to the OFF position, safely park, and clear away all ice and packed snow from the wiper blades and cowl. After waiting about 1 minute, you can turn the switch back on to resume normal operation.
The windshield wipers and washer system on your Nissan Versa will only function when the ignition switch is set to the active ON position.
To activate the wipers, push the control lever down from the home position to select one of the following speeds:
- Intermittent (INT) - Best for light rain or mist; the delay between sweeps can be adjusted by turning the interval ring in direction A (to make it sweep faster) or direction B (to make it sweep slower).
- Low (LO) - Continuous wiper operation at a steady, low speed.
- High (HI) - Continuous wiper operation at high speed for heavy downpours.
For a single clearing sweep (such as to remove morning dew), push the lever upward to the MIST position 4 and release it.
To wash the windshield, pull the control lever toward you 5. The washer nozzles will spray fluid onto the glass, and the wipers will automatically run for several sweeps to clean the windshield of your Nissan Versa.
