This advanced convenience feature allows you to start the vehicle's engine from the outside, pre-conditioning the cabin environment before you step inside.

The following interior comfort settings and features may be actively affected when you utilize the Remote Engine Start system on your Nissan Versa:

• Vehicles configured with a manual climate control system (if so equipped) will automatically default to the heating, ventilation, or cooling mode settings that were active when the car was last driven and turned off.
• Vehicles equipped with an automatic climate control system (if so equipped) will intelligently adjust and default to either a heating or cooling cycle. The system dynamically decides the appropriate cabin temperature targets based on real-time assessments of both the outdoor ambient climate and the current cabin temperature.

Please note that local environmental laws and municipal regulations in some communities may restrict or outright prohibit the use of Remote Engine Start systems. Certain jurisdictions enforce laws governing the exact amount of time a parked vehicle is permitted to idle. For example, some local ordinances state that anyone utilizing a remote start function must keep the vehicle in clear physical view, while others restrict engine idling altogether except during freezing winter temperatures.

Before using this feature, check local regulations in your driving area to ensure compliance with any specific legal requirements.

Additionally, surrounding physical obstructions, building materials, and local radio frequency signals can affect the operational responsiveness of your Remote Engine Start feature.

Similarly, environmental variables and potential signal interference can temporarily impact the overall transmitter performance of your Intelligent Key.

Remote Engine Start operating range

WARNING

• To prevent serious injury or death from the unintended operation of your vehicle systems, including potential window entrapment or accidental door lock engagement, never leave young children, individuals requiring assistance, or pets unattended in your Nissan Versa. Furthermore, temperatures inside a fully closed cabin on a warm or sunny day can climb dangerously high in a matter of minutes, creating an extreme environment that poses an immediate, fatal risk of heatstroke or suffocation to vulnerable occupants and pets.
• Never activate the Remote Engine Start system if your Nissan Versa is parked in enclosed, unventilated spaces such as residential garages or indoor parking structures. Do not breathe in accumulating exhaust gases; they contain carbon monoxide, a highly toxic, colorless, and odorless gas. Inhaling carbon monoxide is extremely hazardous and can rapidly cause carbon monoxide poisoning, loss of consciousness, or death.

CAUTION

If the Intelligent Key battery is weak or discharged, or if your Nissan Versa is parked near high-power radio wave sources (such as cell towers or wireless routers), the signal range of the Intelligent Key will be reduced, and the remote engine start feature may not activate properly.

The Remote Engine Start system will function reliably only when the Intelligent Key is positioned within the vehicle's designated physical operating range for secure signal detection.

Remote starting the vehicle

To safely initiate the Remote Engine Start feature on your Nissan Versa and start the engine, follow these sequential steps:

1. Point the Intelligent Key directly toward your vehicle.

2. Press the button to lock all of the doors.

3. Within 5 seconds of locking the vehicle, press and hold the engine start button until the hazard turn signal lights flash and the tail lamps illuminate. If your vehicle is parked out of direct line of sight, continue to press and hold the button for at least 2 full seconds.

The moment the engine successfully fires up, the following vehicle actions will occur:

• The exterior parking lights will turn on and remain continuously lit for the entire duration of the engine's remote run cycle.
• The doors will remain locked for security, and the climate control system will activate to begin warming or cooling the cabin.
• The engine will run automatically for a default period of 10 minutes.

  If you require a longer pre-conditioning window, you can repeat the exact steps above once to extend the active engine run time for an additional 10 minutes.

Before you can shift out of park and drive your Nissan Versa, you must first step into the cabin, firmly press and hold the brake pedal, and then push the physical engine ignition switch to the ON position.

Extending engine run time

You can extend the Remote Engine Start cycle of your Nissan Versa once by repeating the initial startup steps. The remaining engine run time is calculated by the vehicle's computer as follows:

• The initial 10-minute countdown starts immediately when the engine first fires up via the first remote command.
• The second 10-minute block begins immediately upon executing the second remote start command. For example, if the engine has already been idling for 5 minutes of its first cycle and you send an extension command, the timer resets, allowing the engine to run for another 10 minutes, resulting in a total continuous run time of 15 minutes.
• Applying this extension will bring you to the maximum allowed limit of two remote start cycles.

A maximum of two consecutive Remote Engine Starts, or a single Remote Engine Start accompanied by a run-time extension, are permitted between manual driving cycles. To reset this electronic counter, you must physically cycle the ignition switch to the ON position and then back to the OFF position before you can perform another Remote Engine Start.

Canceling a Remote Engine Start

To shut off the engine and cancel the remote start cycle of your Nissan Versa manually, perform any of the following actions:

• Aim your Intelligent Key at the vehicle and press and hold until the exterior parking lights turn off completely.
• Turn on the hazard warning flashers using the dashboard button.
• Step inside the vehicle, turn the ignition switch to the ON position, and then turn it back to the OFF position.
• Allow the extended engine run time to finish counting down and expire.
• Allow the initial 10-minute idle timer to run out.
• Open the vehicle's engine hood.
• Attempt to shift the gear selector out of the P (Park) position.
• The security alarm system triggers due to unauthorized entry or tampering.
• Push the ignition switch without an authorized Intelligent Key detected inside the vehicle.
• Push the ignition switch with the key in the vehicle without pressing down on the brake pedal.

Conditions the Remote Engine Start will not work

The Remote Engine Start system on your Nissan Versa will be temporarily disabled and will not operate if any of the following conditions are present:

• The ignition switch inside the vehicle is currently in the ON position.
• The engine hood is open or not securely latched.
• The hazard indicator lights are currently turned on.
• The engine is already running. The engine must be fully turned off; if the engine has just shut down, you must wait at least 6 seconds before initiating a new remote start command. (This waiting period is not required when simply extending an active remote run cycle).
• The engine start button was not held down for at least 2 seconds.
• The engine start button was not pressed within the required 5-second window after pressing the lock button.
• The physical brake pedal is actively depressed.
• Any of the passenger doors or the driver's door are open or unlocked.
• The trunk lid is open.
• An "I-Key System Error" warning message is actively displayed on your vehicle information display.
• The vehicle's alarm is currently sounding due to a security breach.
• You have already reached the maximum limit of two Remote Engine Starts, or a single Remote Engine Start with an extension, between ignition cycles.
• The gear selector is in any position other than P (Park).
• The onboard sensors detect that a registered Intelligent Key is already left inside the passenger cabin of the vehicle.
• The Remote Engine Start feature has been manually turned off under the "Vehicle Settings" menu on the Nissan Versa vehicle information display.
