Nissan Versa: Pre-driving checks and adjustments - Hood

1. Safely locate and pull the primary hood lock release handle (labeled 1) situated conveniently below the driver's side instrument panel. Pulling this handle will release the main latch mechanism, causing the hood of your Nissan Versa to spring up slightly.

2. Move to the front of the vehicle, locate the secondary safety lever (labeled 2) under the front edge of the hood, and push this lever sideways with your fingertips to fully disengage the secondary catch.

3. Carefully raise the hood (labeled 3) to its fully open position.

4. Remove the hood support rod from its retaining clip and securely insert the free end into the designated slot (labeled 4) to prop the hood open safely.

Hold only the insulated or coated parts when removing, positioning, or resetting the support rod. Avoid direct contact with any bare metal parts, as they may become extremely hot immediately after the Nissan Versa engine has been running.

When you are ready to close the hood, carefully lift it slightly, disengage the support rod, and secure it back into its original retaining clip. Lower the hood down to approximately 12 inches (30 cm) above the latch mechanism, and then release it so that it drops under its own weight. This ensures proper engagement and secure locking of the primary hood latch.

WARNING

Always double-check that the hood of your Nissan Versa is completely closed, flush with the fenders, and securely latched before you begin driving.

Failure to properly latch the hood could cause it to unexpectedly fly open while driving, completely obstructing your view and potentially resulting in a serious accident.
If you observe steam, smoke, or coolant leaking from the engine compartment, do not attempt to open the hood. To avoid severe burns or injury, wait for the engine to cool down completely before inspecting it.
