Nissan Versa: Instruments and controls - Security system

To protect your investment, your Nissan Versa is equipped with a highly reliable vehicle security system designed to prevent unauthorized operation:
- NISSAN Vehicle Immobilizer System
NISSAN Vehicle Immobilizer System
The NISSAN Vehicle Immobilizer System provides an extra layer of defense by ensuring that the engine cannot be started without the use of a specially coded, registered key. This electronic system matches a transponder chip inside your key with the vehicle's ignition module.
Under certain conditions, the engine of your Nissan Versa may fail to start even when using a properly registered key. This usually happens when there is external electromagnetic interference caused by another registered key on the same ring, an automated toll road transponder, or an electronic payment device. If this interference occurs, you can bypass the conflict and start the engine using the following steps:
1. Switch the ignition to the ON position and leave it there for approximately 5 seconds.
2. Turn the ignition switch back to the OFF or LOCK position and wait for approximately 10 seconds to let the system reset.
3. Repeat steps 1 and 2 once more.
4. Attempt to start the engine again, making sure to physically separate the source of potential interference (such as other electronic keys or toll passes) from the registered ignition key.
If this no-start issue occurs repeatedly, NISSAN recommends keeping your registered vehicle key on a separate key ring. This prevents daily wireless devices or other keys from blocking the signal to your Nissan Versa immobilizer system.
To protect against vehicle theft, never leave these registered keys inside the vehicle.

Security indicator light
The security indicator light on the dashboard is designed to blink steadily whenever the ignition switch is turned to the OFF or LOCK position.
This continuous blinking is normal and indicates that the NISSAN Vehicle Immobilizer System is armed, operational, and active in your Nissan Versa.
If a system malfunction is detected within the security loop, this indicator light will remain lit continuously when you turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
If the security light stays on constantly and the engine refuses to crank, seek professional assistance for the NISSAN Vehicle Immobilizer System as soon as possible. When visiting the service department, please bring all of your registered keys, as they may need to be reprogrammed. We recommend visiting an authorized NISSAN dealer to resolve this security system issue.
