Nissan Versa: Do-it-yourself - Air cleaner

WARNING
- Operating the engine with the air cleaner filter housing removed or open can cause severe burns to you or others. The engine air cleaner filter does more than just filter and clean incoming intake air; it also acts as a vital flame arrestor that stops flames if the engine ever backfires. If the air cleaner assembly is not properly installed and the engine experiences a backfire, you could be seriously burned. Never drive your Nissan Versa with the air cleaner filter removed. Exercise extreme caution when performing any checks near the engine bay when the air cleaner cover is off.
- Never pour raw fuel directly into the throttle body bore or attempt to start the engine while the air cleaner filter element is removed. Doing so could result in a sudden flame burst and serious personal injury.
To remove the filter element from the air cleaner assembly, unlatch the metal retaining clips designated as A and pull the plastic cover upward carefully.
The viscous paper-type filter element used in this vehicle should never be cleaned with compressed air or washed and reused. Always replace the dirty air filter according to the scheduled maintenance log shown in the "Maintenance and schedules" section of this manual.
When replacing the air filter element, take a clean damp cloth and thoroughly wipe out any accumulated dust or debris from the inside of the lower air cleaner housing and the underside of the cover.
NOTE:
After installing a fresh air cleaner filter element, make sure the air cleaner cover is seated squarely and securely in the lower housing before latching the retaining clips A .
In-cabin microfilter
Your Nissan Versa may be equipped with an advanced in-cabin microfilter located behind the dashboard that actively collects road dirt, fine pollen, dust particles, and soot while also reducing objectionable outside exhaust odors.
The in-cabin microfilter is housed within the instrument panel assembly. Replace this filter in strict accordance with the specified maintenance intervals listed in the "Maintenance and schedules" section of your manual.
If microfilter replacement is required, it is recommended that you visit an authorized NISSAN dealer for this service.
The cabin air filter should be replaced promptly if you notice that airflow from the climate control vents decreases significantly or if the windows fog up easily when operating the heater or air conditioner.
