Cleaning

If your windshield is not completely clear and streak-free after activating the windshield-washer system or if a wiper blade chatters loudly when running across the glass, stubborn road film, automotive wax, or other contaminants may have built up on the rubber blade edge or the glass surface.

Thoroughly clean the outside of the windshield glass using an automotive washer fluid or a mild grease-cutting detergent. Your windshield glass is completely clean when water droplets do not bead up upon rinsing with clear water.

Clean each individual wiper blade by wiping the rubber element firmly with a clean cloth soaked in windshield-washer fluid or a mild detergent solution.

Afterward, rinse the blades thoroughly with clear water.

If your windshield is still not clear and visibility remains impaired after thoroughly cleaning both the blades and the glass, it is time to install new windshield wiper blades.

CAUTION

Worn, torn, or hardened windshield wiper blades can scratch the windshield glass and severely impair driver vision during adverse weather.

Replacing

Replace the windshield wiper blades promptly whenever they show signs of wear, tearing, or splitting.

To replace the windshield wiper blades on your Nissan Versa, follow the step-by-step procedure below:

1. Carefully lift the metal wiper arm away from the windshield until it locks in its raised service position.

2. Depress or push the locking release tab designated as B .

3. Slide the old wiper blade element A downward along the arm and remove it completely.

4. Insert the new replacement wiper blade securely onto the wiper arm hook until it snaps and clicks firmly into place.

5. Gently lower the wiper arm back down onto the windshield glass.

CAUTION

• Immediately after completing wiper blade replacement, always return the wiper arm safely to its original resting position against the glass; otherwise, the arm or the hood edge may be permanently damaged when the vehicle hood is opened.
• Make sure the wiper blades make full, even contact with the glass surface; otherwise, the unsupported arms may be bent or damaged from high-speed wind pressure while driving.

If you apply liquid wax to the exterior surface of the vehicle hood during detailing, take care not to let any wax paste get inside the windshield washer spray nozzle D . This can cause clogging or improper, uneven windshield-washer operation. If wax does accidentally enter the nozzle opening, carefully remove it using a sewing needle or a small pin C .
