Nissan Versa: Do-it-yourself - Battery

• If your Nissan Versa battery is clearly labeled with a "do not open" warning notice, it is entirely maintenance-free, and individual battery fluid levels should never be checked or pried open. It is recommended that you visit an authorized NISSAN dealer or a qualified electrical specialist workshop to test and confirm the overall health and performance of the battery.
• Keep the exterior casing and top surface of the battery clean, dry, and free of grime.

  Wash away any accumulated white or blue powdery corrosion buildup carefully using a neutralizing solution of baking soda mixed with clean water.

• Make certain that all battery terminal cable connections remain clean, tight, and securely fastened to prevent electrical resistance.
• If your vehicle is not going to be driven or used for a prolonged period of 30 days or longer, disconnect the negative (-) battery terminal cable to prevent parasitic electrical drain and subsequent battery discharge.

NOTE:

Extra care should be taken during daily vehicle usage to avoid common situations that can lead to potential battery depletion and unexpected no-start conditions, such as:

1. The installation, continuous connection, or extended use of aftermarket electronic accessories that continue to consume battery power while the engine is turned off (such as plugged-in mobile phone chargers, portable GPS navigation units, dash cameras, or auxiliary entertainment devices).

2. The vehicle is not driven on a regular basis, or it is operated exclusively for very short driving distances that do not give the alternator enough time to fully recharge the battery.

In these specific operational scenarios, the battery may occasionally need to be externally recharged using a battery charger to maintain optimal battery health and starting reliability.

WARNING

• Do not expose the battery to open flames, smoking materials, or any source of electrical sparks. The volatile hydrogen gas generated naturally by the automotive battery is highly explosive. Explosive gases can cause severe personal injury or permanent blindness. Never allow corrosive battery fluid to contact your bare skin, eyes, clothing, or vehicle painted body surfaces. Concentrated sulfuric acid contained within the battery can cause severe chemical burns, blindness, or permanent injury.

  After working on or touching a battery casing, post, or cap, never touch or rub your eyes with your hands. Thoroughly wash and scrub your hands immediately afterward. If acid accidentally contacts your eyes, skin, or clothing, immediately flush the affected area with an abundance of clean running water for at least 15 continuous minutes and seek professional medical attention right away.

• When performing maintenance or repairs on or near the automotive battery, always wear certified protective eye safety glasses or goggles and remove all personal jewelry, such as metal rings, chains, and watches.
• Battery posts, exposed terminal clamps, and related wiring accessories contain lead and lead chemical compounds known to cause health risks. Always wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water after handling battery components.
• Always keep the automotive battery safely out of the reach of infants and children.
• Do not tip, tilt, or invert the battery under any circumstances, as corrosive liquid acid can spill out.

NOTE:

Do not attempt to pry open or remove the top cover of the battery housing.

This original equipment battery is sealed and is not equipped with traditional removable filler vent caps.
