Nissan Versa: Instruments and controls - Interior lights

The main overhead interior light of the Nissan Versa features a versatile three-position switch designed to adapt to your cabin lighting needs. This illumination system is engineered to operate independently of the ignition switch position, ensuring you have clear visibility inside the vehicle at any time.

When the physical switch is slid into the ON position 3, the cabin interior lights will instantly illuminate, regardless of whether the doors are open or closed. To conserve energy, these lights are programmed to automatically shut off after a designated period of time unless the ignition switch is turned to the active ON position.

When the switch is placed in the center 2 (DOOR) position, the cabin interior lights are linked to the door entry system and will remain illuminated for a temporary period of time when:

• The doors are unlocked using the remote keyless entry fob or the interior power door lock switch while all passenger doors remain fully closed and the ignition switch is in the OFF position.
• The driver's door is opened and subsequently closed while the physical key is removed from the ignition cylinder (if your Nissan Versa is so equipped).
• The physical ignition key is fully removed from the ignition switch column (if so equipped) while all doors are completely closed.

The interior illumination will turn off immediately—even if the entry timer is still running—when one of the following actions occurs:

• The driver's door is securely locked from the outside using the physical key or from the inside using the power door lock master switch.
• The ignition switch is turned past the ACC position and placed directly into the ON position.

When the control switch is set to the OFF position 1, the interior lights remain completely inactive and do not illuminate under any circumstances, regardless of whether a passenger door is opened or closed.

As an integrated safeguard, the electronic control module of your Nissan Versa will automatically shut off the interior lights after a pre-programmed delay while any passenger doors are left ajar. This safety feature prevents the vehicle's 12V battery from becoming completely discharged.

CAUTION

To prevent battery drain, do not leave the cabin lighting switched on for extended periods of time when the engine is stopped. Keeping the lights on unnecessarily could easily result in a discharged battery, leaving you unable to start your vehicle.

Map lights

The driver and front passenger are provided with independent map lights in the overhead console. To turn either map light on, simply push the corresponding switch to the 1 position. To turn the light off when you are finished reading or loading cargo, push the switch back to the 2 position.

CAUTION

Do not operate these map lights for extended periods of time while the Nissan Versa engine is turned off, as this continuous electrical draw will rapidly deplete the starting battery.

Personal Light

Center personal light

The rear passenger area features a dedicated center personal light. This light is controlled by an easy-to-reach three-position switch and operates reliably regardless of whether the ignition is active or off.

When the personal light slider is moved to the ON position 1, the light will remain constantly illuminated, providing ambient light for the rear seats of your Nissan Versa without being affected by the door sensors.

When the slider is placed in the central DOOR position 2, the personal light is tied to the vehicle's entry system and will automatically illuminate whenever any passenger door is opened.

With the switch in the DOOR position, the personal light is programmed to stay on for approximately 15 seconds after:

• The doors are unlocked from the outside while the ignition switch is placed in the OFF position and all passenger doors remain fully closed.
• The driver's door is opened and then completely closed while the vehicle's ignition switch is placed in the OFF position.
• The ignition switch is turned to the OFF position while all passenger doors remain fully closed.

To keep the vehicle secure and dark when needed, the personal light will override the 15-second delay and turn off immediately when:

• The driver's door is locked using the remote keyless entry key fob, a physical key, or the master door lock-unlock switch.
• The ignition switch is turned from the OFF position and placed into the active ON position.

When the switch is set to the OFF position 3, the personal light is deactivated and will not turn on, regardless of door or ignition status.

To protect your vehicle's electrical health, your Nissan Versa is equipped with an intelligent battery saver system. This feature will automatically cut power to the interior lights after approximately 10 minutes of inactivity if:

• Any passenger doors or the trunk are left standing open, or
• The main interior light switch is accidentally left pushed to the ON position.

NOTE:

If the interior lighting system is shut down automatically by the vehicle's battery saver protection, you must cycle the ignition switch to the active ON position before the interior lights can be illuminated or operated normally again.

CAUTION

Always avoid operating the cabin illumination systems for extended periods of time with the vehicle's engine stopped. Continuous electrical accessory use could result in a discharged battery and prevent the engine from starting.

Trunk light

To assist you when loading or unloading cargo at night, the trunk light illuminates automatically the moment the trunk lid of your Nissan Versa is popped open. As soon as the trunk lid is fully latched and closed, the trunk compartment light switches off to conserve power.

If the trunk lid is left propped open for an extended period, the built-in timer will automatically switch the cargo light off after a set period of time to safeguard your battery, unless the ignition switch is cycled to the active ON position.
