Nissan Versa: Instruments and controls - Rear Door Alert

The Rear Door Alert system functions under specific driving conditions to remind the driver that an object, pet, or passenger may have been left in the rear seat area. It is highly recommended to always physically check the rear seats of your Nissan Versa before exiting the vehicle to ensure nothing valuable or vulnerable is left behind.

By default, the Rear Door Alert system is initially disabled when the vehicle is delivered from the factory.

The driver can easily enable or configure this safety system at any time using the settings menu within the vehicle information display on the instrument cluster.

When the system is successfully enabled:

• The system is activated automatically if a rear door is opened and closed within 10 minutes prior to the Nissan Versa being driven. Once the driver's door is closed and the system registers this sequence, a helpful visual activation message will temporarily appear on the vehicle information display screen.
• If a rear side door is opened and closed but you do not actually drive the vehicle within approximately 10 minutes, the monitoring system will not activate. To trigger the monitoring cycle, a rear door must be opened and closed, and the vehicle must be driven within that 10-minute window.

When the active Rear Door Alert system is triggered at the end of a trip:

• Once the driver shifts the transmission of the Nissan Versa into the P (Park) position, a clear notification message is shown on the vehicle information display, offering two interactive options: "Dismiss Message" or "Disable Alert."
  • Selecting "Disable Alert" on the screen will temporarily silence and disable the rear door monitoring functions for that specific parking stop.
  • Choosing "Dismiss Message" or making no selection at all will keep the full alert sequence active for that parking stop.
• If the alert remains active when the driver exits the vehicle, a prompt will appear on the vehicle information display stating "Check Back Seat For All Articles." If the "Horn & Alert" option has been selected in the settings menu, the following sequence occurs:
  • An audible horn warning will sound shortly after exiting the vehicle, unless a rear door is physically opened and closed within a short time window to deactivate the alert.
  • If you lock the vehicle doors using the remote keyless entry before the alert is deactivated by opening a rear door, the horn will sound immediately to get your attention.
  • If you open the trunk of your Nissan Versa before opening a rear door, the audible horn warning will be delayed and will not sound until after the trunk is fully closed.

NOTE:

If the "Alert Only" setting is selected in the Nissan Versa system menu, the warning message will still appear on the instrument cluster display, but the physical horn will not sound when you walk away.

WARNING

• If the driver manually selects "Disable Alert" on the instrument cluster, no audible horn warnings or alerts will be provided, regardless of whether the rear doors were opened or closed.
• There may be instances where an object, baggage, or passenger remains in the rear seat area, but the audible warning does not sound. For example, this can happen if passengers enter or exit the rear cabin of the Nissan Versa during a brief stop while the engine remains running.
• The Rear Door Alert system does not physically scan or directly detect objects, pets, or passengers in the rear seats. Instead, it relies strictly on recording the physical opening and closing sequences of the rear doors as an indicator that something may have been placed in the back.

NOTE:

There may be times when the horn sounds as a reminder even though no objects, cargo, or passengers are actually present in the rear seats of your Nissan Versa.
